Suarez scores twice in 6-0 win for Barca B

Luis Suarez scored twice for Barcelona B as the Catalans' second string beat Indonesia's Under-19 side 6-0 in a friendly at the club's training ground on Wednesday.

Suarez netted once in each half and looked sharp in a comfortable run-out for Barca B, in which fellow summer signing Thomas Vermaelen also appeared - and scored - following his return from injury.

The Uruguay striker is still serving a four-month ban for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini in the World Cup and cannot make his official debut until October 25, when Barca meet Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the season's first Clasico clash.

Suarez saw some sanctions lifted on appeal in August and was able to return to training and subsequently make his debut for the first team as a late substitute in their Joan Gamper game against Mexican side Leon, which Barca won 6-0.

But he started this one on a rainy afternoon in the Catalan capital as Luis Enrique looks for him to build up his match fitness ahead of a first-team return next month.

Suarez looked lively from the outset as Barca B dominated almost at will against the visitors.

The former Liverpool striker won a corner early on and from the resulting set piece, fellow summer signing Vermaelen headed home to make it 1-0 on his first game in Barca colours after returning from injury.

Vermaelen looked comfortable in a left-back role, while Suarez started in a central position but frequently popped all over the attack for the young Blaugrana side.

The 27-year-old made it 2-0 when he ran onto a lovely threaded pass from 18-year-old Croatian international Alen Halilovic and finished with an angled left-footed finish which went in off the post.

Suarez then set up captain Pol Calvet for a decent chance as he played a neat pass across the area for the Barca B captain, who fired just over the crossbar.

The Uruguayan also tried his luck from long range, forcing the Indonesian goalkeeper into a smart save, while he was also just off target with an acrobatic effort from the left-hand side of the box.

David Babunski put Barca B three up as he drilled a low drive into the bottom corner from just outside the area later in the opening period.

In the second half, Suarez then came close with a delicate chip following a clever turn in the box.

Vermaelen was withdrawn after an hour and his replacement, Bicho, made it 4-0 after latching on to a perfectly weighted pass from Maxi Rolon.

Moments later, Suarez scored his second with a spectacular solo effort as he shook off the attention of two markers to curl a left-footed effort into the corner from outside the area.

The Uruguayan then fired wide as he sought his hat-trick and could have got it as Barca B won a penalty late on, but Rolon took it instead and converted to make it 6-0.

Suarez took a knock late in the game, but it turned out to be nothing serious and his link-up play with Halilovic above all (who twice hit the woodwork) will be particularly pleasing for the club's coaching staff.
